About the Council
The Suriname Fashion Council (SFC) is the official national umbrella organization dedicated to advancing, strengthening, and internationally positioning Suriname's fashion industry.
We bring together fashion professionals, creative talent, businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, cultural organizations, investors, sponsors, development partners, and international organizations to build a thriving, professional, sustainable, and globally connected fashion ecosystem.
Through collaboration, education, innovation, entrepreneurship, research, and international partnerships, we are creating new opportunities for individuals, businesses, and the country as a whole.

Meet the Team
Sharda Moïra Johnn
Founder & Chair — known internationally as SUPERSHARDASharda Moïra Johnn is one of Suriname's few internationally established high-fashion models, representing her country in the big four fashion capitals: New York, Paris, Milan, and London. Collaborating with internationally recognized fashion brands and publications.
Inspired by her international experience and a deep commitment to nation-building, she founded the Suriname Fashion Council to strengthen Suriname's fashion industry, create opportunities for creative talent, and connect Suriname with the global fashion community.
She combines industry expertise with a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management and a Master's degree in Public Administration to lead the Council's vision of a professional, sustainable, and internationally recognized fashion sector.
Gary Symor
Secretary — Fashion Educator, Designer & Pattern MakerGary Symor is a Surinamese-born fashion designer, pattern maker, educator and consultant with more than two decades of experience in the European fashion industry and education.
A graduate of HKU Utrecht in Fashion Design, he has worked across fashion design, pattern making, product development and consultancy, collaborating with brands, institutions and creative professionals including L'Oréal, moooi and various fashion labels.
Alongside his industry work, Gary has built an extensive career in fashion education. Since 2011, he has worked as a teacher, mentor and educational developer within Dutch vocational education and has contributed to international fashion initiatives, workshops and examinations, including at AICP in Paris.
Through his international experience, technical expertise and passion for education, Gary brings to the Suriname Fashion Council a strong focus on professional development, knowledge transfer and building bridges between Surinamese talent and the international fashion industry.
